Holistic Church-Based Discipleship

MMD-Discipleship.jpgOverall Objective

To enable Africans to be involved in community development without external funding and without direct control of professional aid workers.

The Current Situation

The initiatives of government and of non-profits have found that the use of professional aid workers and large financial expenditures do not produce sustainable results.

How can MMD help change this situation?

In African society a pastor still exerts significant leadership far beyond the walls of his church building. Through churches MMD wants to provide education and training aimed at changing world views and acquiring practical skills.

A change of world view is accomplished as people get clearer insight into both the strengths and pitfalls of their own culture.

New initiatives develop when people personally embrace the realities of their own community; when they realize that their abilities and resources—limited as they may be—are in fact sufficient for them to make a real difference. In this way the cultural hindrances that often inhibit Africans from personal social involvement can be removed.

So what does MMD provide?

MMD provides foundational training modules for pastor such as:

Income Generation – to combat poverty

Integrity and Managing Finances – to combat poor governance

Peace and Reconciliation – to combat violence and help refugees

Counseling on HIV and AIDS – to combat the biggest killer in Africa

Does this work?

Providing this church-based education and training creates a healthy and positive influence that enables the entire community to benefit. There are numerous examples throughout sub-Saharan Africa where positive community projects (such as schools, small businesses, garbage recycling, etc.) came about as a result of providing effective training for church leaders.
