Not Just for Inside Church Buildings
Tomaš Kohút, Slovakia

/files/Images/Ministries/Slovakia/Photos/Apr-2010.jpgTomaš Kohút grew up as a pastor’s son, but after a serious crisis in his last year in seminary, he almost gave up his intentions of becoming a minister. He is now the pastor of a church in central Slovakia. Tomaš was exposed to the ideas and materials of the Entrust training in seminary and has been a part of a group since 1998. He discusses what he sees as the main challenges facing Christians in his country, now some 20 years after the fall of communism:

“Today in Slovakia you are no longer persecuted for going to church, although I feel that might be changing. There are some new European Union laws which are not friendly to Christianity. Individualism and materialism are destructive temptations and we do not know how to show that the gospel fits to practical life; it is not just for inside church buildings. Most Christians do not have a well-developed worldview. Many believe, but do not know why or cannot explain it. We are challenged to be faithful in an increasingly hectic and liberal environment. It is a question of whether we will stand firm in our faith and moral principles.”

Entrust training in Slovakia helps meet that challenge by providing training that helps students put biblical truth into practice, leading to transformation in local churches and then outward to the community. Kohút  continues:

“A powerful force for change is the example of church leaders and elders under the leading of the Holy Spirit who are living out the Gospel practically, being good spouses, parents, evangelists and pastors.  Entrust training is done in small groups that are safe places to share and provide accountability and discipleship, as well as interactive learning from those who are older and more experienced, both about issues in one’s personal life and about church life. Meeting together as members of different churches helps develop unity.”

Please continue to partner with Entrust in praying for the challenges that Slovakian Christians face as they witness to the transforming power of the gospel in their country.
